Understanding natural systems and their cycles
This morning was full of cutting and pulling where possible, tree seedlings, from the raspberry patch in the front yard. This is the only maintenance of this area other than cutting a few canes .
The raspberries being a pioneering crop keep the grasses and other plants from growing where they have settled and at the same time form a great nursery for trees. As is the natural order of things; the trees would then eventually grow and shade out the raspberries and become a forest.
Keeping the raspberry patch in this stage of its natural development then requires a halt of the progeny, primarily maples in this case with a few elms.
Understanding natural systems and their cycles add a depth and understanding to your gardening experience.
